INSTRUCTIONS

Week 1
Introduction
Before classes started, we were to pair up with 1 or 2 classmates as the project will be done in groups. Joanna and I discussed and we decided to pair up together for the upcoming projects. For the first week of classes, our lecturers Mr Shamsul and Mr Razif briefed us on what is UX and then proceeded to explain what our upcoming projects will be using the MIB.

We were told that for our project, we will be collaborating with ESPL which is a popular E-sports platform. Our job is to improve some problems that they are facing in terms of User Experience. Our former lecture, Mr Jefferey, which is currently under this company, gave us some problems/scenarios.

Problem 1: User Acquisition
Problem 2: Passport
Problem 3: Mobile App
Problem 4: Redesign ESPL Website
Problem 5: Virtual Trophy

We were told to choose one of the problems above or another problem found on the website to find a solution for it. The end product should be functional even if it is just a mockup. Some research will need to be done in order for us to conduct this project.

Week 2
Interviews and Design Thinking
For this week's class, our classmates, Katarina, Felicia and Lungga gave a lecture on a research method which is Individual Interview and how it can help us with solving problems for UX design.

After the students' lecture, Mr Shamsul gave a lecture as well on Design Thinking. Design thinking is a more user-centred approach where the researcher puts himself as a user to understand human needs. It can help in exploring and defining business problems.

After today's class, we were then asked to make a user journey map of any app. My groupmate Joanna and I decided that we would do a user journey map for FoodPanda. We created a persona named Lil JoN who is a 12-year-old Malaysian primary school student that wants to order some food on a budget. He is a new user as he saw an ad for FoodPanda on the way home from school. Below is the user journey map.

After making the user journey map, we proceeded to make a video, explaining the user journey map in detail.

Week 3
This week, my classmates, Azmina, Yameen and Rausha, gave a presentation on User Personas. In order to understand the needs and wants from a consumer's point of view, a fictional character can be created to represent your target consumer so the consumer's buying pattern can be much clearer and concise.

After the presentation, our lecturer assigned us an exercise in which we have to create 3 user personas for the E-Sports website, ESPL. Along with the personas, we created a user journey map for one of the personas.

Week 4
This week, my classmates gave a lecture on a research method, which is focus group. A focus group is when a small group of participants are selected to participate in a discussion for research purposes. It allows the researcher to receive feedback on a certain service or product. Our groupmates also conducted an impromptu focus group on us.

The following week, Joanna and I came up discussed together and came up with a set of questions for a survey along with an interview. We asked Mr Razif for feedback. He read through it and gave some feedback on some questions. Other than that, we were told to proceed with our survey and interview.

Week 5
This week we had no lectures. Joanna and I proceeded with our work. We have collected our data from the interview and survey. We analysed the participants' responses and proceeded to create 3 personas from the data that we've collected. We made the 3 personas based on 3 target groups:
  • Target User
  • Supported User
  • Non-Supported User.

After that was done, we proceeded to make a user journey map for all 3 personas so that we would understand the experience from their point of view.

Week 6
This week, Joanna and I gave a presentation of our proposal on the ESPL website. We decided that we would build an app to solve the pain points of ESPL. Below is our presentation slides. Mr Shamsul commented that we presented well with the pain points clearly stated.

The following week, my classmates Zoe, Britney and Ned gave a lecture on Heuristic Evaluation. Heuristic Evaluation is a method in which it used to examine and analyze user Softwares like apps and websites so that usability problems can be identified.

Week 7
This week, Joanna and I showed our user flow to Mr Razif.
Mr Razif commented that some of the shapes used were incorrect that it should be changed according to what the shapes represented. Also, some of the questions can be removed as it just needs to be straight to the filters. He also commented that the word "page" should be changed to listings to avoid confusion. After the feedback, Joanna and I changed some things up in the user flow again according to the feedback received.

Week 8
This week, it was Joanna and I's turn to give a lecture. Our topic was card sorting. In words, Card sorting is used to help design or evaluate information architecture. It involves participants to organize topics into categories that make sense to them and group them accordingly.

After the short lecture, Mr Shamsul commented that we could go ahead and proceed to conduct a card sorting session and come up with a low fidelity prototype for the ESPL app.

Week 9
Before we proceeded with our low fidelity prototype, we went on and did some research on some e-sports app. We examined the UI and the UX of some projects as well as actual e-sports apps like Strafe, Twitch and E-Force. We then proceeded with a rough sketch of our wireframes.

After that, we did a digitised version of the sketch.

Week 10
After receiving some feedback from our lectures, we proceeded with our low fidelity prototype in XD. Below is our initial wireframes.

Week 11
Once again we asked our lecturers for feedback. Below is our prototype that we will be used for user testing.

Week 12
After conducting our user testing, we realized that there were a few changes needed to be made according to the feedback. Below is our final low fidelity prototype before we proceeded with our high fidelity.

Below is the report for our user testing.

Week 13
This week, Joanna and I went on and found some reference pictures on how we wanted our app to look like before we proceeded with our high fidelity prototype.

Week 14
This week we finished our high fidelity prototype and we proceeded with another session of user testing on our high fidelity.

Below is the report for our user testing.

Week 15
This week, we had our final presentation.

I think Joanna and I did a really good job despite our it being our first doing something like an App. We received some feedback that it was quite comprehensive. However, according to our client, there is room for improvement. But despite that, We were quite happy with how it turned out. Below is a link to our final app.

Feedback
Week 1
No feedback given this week.

Week 2
No feedback was given this week.

Week 3
Our user journey map that we created was done correctly. Our lecturer also commented that our user persona needed to be based on actual real-life info rather than just making up assumptions so it could provide a better representation of the target group.

Week 4
Mr Razif has commented on our survey questions and that some questions should be structured in a different manner. Other than that, everything was okay.

Week 5
Mr Shamsul told us that it is best to group our target audience into specific age groups and create user personas based on that. This is so generalisation could be much more efficient and easier.

Week 6
Mr Shamsul commented that our presentation was really clear and straight to the point. Mr Shamsul along with the client said that they like the idea of adding a stream function and that they agree with the reasoning with why we wanted to add a stream function.

Week 7
This week we showed our user flow chart. Mr Razif commented that some of the shapes were used incorrectly and that it should be changed according to what it should represent. Also, to lower the risk of confusion, the word page should be changed to listing.

Week 8
After changes were made for our user flow chart, we were given the go to proceed with our low fidelity prototype.

Week 9
This week, sketches of our low fidelity prototype were shown. Our lectures commented that some of the lines used were a tad bit too thick.

Week 10
This week we showed our low fidelity prototype to Mr Razif. There were still some pages that needed to be added to make it more complete. Also, the places we want to add images, there should be a cross in the box to indicate that it is an image. Besides that, we would need to add a description on what the tournament is about so that the user

Week 11
This we showed our updated version of our low fidelity prototype. Mr Shamsul commented that there should be an indication of what should be typed in the empty space in the country questions at the beginning of the wireframe. Besides that, he also said that instead of using the word 'next', it could be replaced with an icon instead. Also, we should add an error page as well as make the typeface bigger for better readability. He suggested adding the names for each icon at the bottom of the menu so that users will understand what each icon means.

Week 12
Mr Shamsul commented that some problems with the alignment of the app and that same position on each page is different. He also commented that we should use the facebook and google icon for the sign up with Facebook and google button. Other than that, the prototype was good and well thought out.

Week 13
We showed our mood board to Mr Razif and it was approved. We were then told to proceed with our high fidelity prototype.

Week 14
Mr Shamsul told us to look out for the font size as it might be a little too small as well as some of the alignment in the app. Other than that, he said that we did a great job.

Week 15
Mr Shamsul commented that our app is quite comprehensive. The client, Mr Jefferey, however, commented that there's room for improvement for the app, one of them being the colour.
