LECTURES
Week 1
Lecture 1: Introduction
Motion Graphics was our first class. Our lecturer Mr Fauzi introduced us to our upcoming projects for this semester. We first had an ice-breaking session so that we could learn more about each other. We were also thought about how our brain works with a little easy exercise. First, put your leg flat on the ground and proceed to cross them. If the left leg is on top of the right, that means you use your right brain more and the opposite if the right leg is on top of the left. The right brain is more to creativity and imagination while the left is more to logic and linear thinking.

Lecture 2: Pinterest board and E-portfolio
For our second lecture, we talked about our e-portfolio along with Pinterest. We were told to go on Pinterest to look at inspirations so we can be inspired ourselves. We were told to create a Pinterest board
and add what we like into the board itself.

Week 2
Lecture 3: Introduction to Motion Graphics
For our second week, we were properly introduced to the world of Motion Graphics. To summarize what motion graphics is about, it's basically an animation however text is the main component. Essentially, it's an animated graphic design. Motion graphic is an effective way to communicate with eh viewers while adding some depth into the story, making it more interesting. Adding music to motion graphics can also help enhance the experience and better convey the tone and emotion of the message.  To understand more about motion graphic, we were encouraged to look at more inspirations and examples on Pinterest.

Lecture 4: Composition Toolkit
Today, we were introduced to a composition toolkit. Composition is a term to used to describe the arrangement of visual elements. Its how the elements of art and design are arranged and organized through the use of design principles. The elements of composition includes:
  • Unity
  • Balance
  • Movement
  • Rhythm
  • Focus
  • Contrast
  • Pattern
  • Proportion

Week 4
Lecture 5: Kinetic Typography
For the 4th week of our motion graphics class, we were introduced to Kinetic Typography. Kinetic typography is basically making typography/words move. It is to evoke emotion and telling stories through the visuals of typography.

There are 2 main types of kinetic typography:

Motion Typography refers to the relative movement between one of another of typographic elements within a 2nd or 3d plane. However, it does not necessarily completely transform into new elements. Words and individual characters maintain their readability by entering, exiting, growing, shrinking and moving around the screen.

Fluid Typography refers to the transformation of typographic elements into non-typographic forms. Characters and words can morph into other shapes as well as other words rather than just changing their current positions.

INSTRUCTIONS

EXERCISES
Week 1
Pinterest Board
We were told to organize our files and update our blogs. We were also asked to make a Pinterest board dedicated to motion graphics. For our second session with Mr Fauzi, we were asked to save some pins that we think we can do.

Week 2
Deconstructing Digital Images and the Rendering Process
In order to further understand compositions, we were to create a collage using magazines or anything that can be cut and made into a collage. We would then need to create 3 types of compositions using the same elements that we cut up.

I first went on a whole hunt in my house to look for some old magazines. After searching half of the land, I finally found a whole stack of my dads old Time magazines.  I took them all out and I started to flip through everything. After then I came across an issue that was a tribute to the late boxing icon, Muhammad Ali. I started to form an idea that I would use that as the main focus on my collage.

Below are my outcomes for the collage.

After showing the 3 compositions, Mr Fauzi commented that it's good however there is a lack of variety and all 3 has the same theme going on and that I should try out different styles. He related to real-world examples like dealing with clients and that clients would want a variety so they are able to choose.

After receiving his feedback I proceeded to find more materials to edit my collage. I then came with 2 more compositions both having different backgrounds.

Mr Fauzi commented that its much better and that there's a variety with 2 very different tones. He commented that I should go with composition #5. He explained that there's a good use of white space. However, personally, I just felt like something was missing. So, I added some butterflies to pump up the aesthetics of the design. Mr Fauzi said that it's fine, however, by adding extra elements, a good story must be formed so he advised me to do some research before adding elements. Below is my final outcome that relates with a famous quote of Muhammad Ali: "Float like a Butterfly, Sting like a Bee".

Week 3
This week, Mr Fauzi gave us a tutorial on After Effects on how to work around with the compositions. For this exercise, we used 5 of the elements of compositions to practice. Below are the 5 composition animation that I did.

Week 5
For our week 5 exercise, we were to make 3 collages out of the elements that our lecturer have provided.

I reviewed all the elements and proceeded to do my collage in Photoshop. Below are 3 of my compositions.

Mr Fauzi liked my collages. He commented that the I have a good understanding of compositions and where to place the elements. After that, he commented that I should proceed to animate one of them in After Effects. Below is the the animation I've done for Collage #1. I've added some sound effects that correspond with the element to make it a tad bit more interesting.

.
After showing him the above animation, he said that its interesting and good. He commented that maybe rather than the elements just entering, that I should make it exit as well. Mr Fauzi said that it'll be great if I animate another collage just so that I can practice more. Below is the final outcome with some music added.

After showing him the final outcome, he commented that it's cool. However, it would be better if the background has the same colour and texture just so that it doesn't look too different from each other.
