Project 1

In our 2nd week, we were introduced to our first project, a recipe poster. For this project, we have to choose a recipe of our choice and make a poster, showing how the dish is made, almost like a tutorial.
I decided to go with a recipe by a YouTuber, SeonKyoung Longest, which is Kimchi Bibimguksu.

Kimchi Bibimguksu direct translation is Kimchi Mixed Noodles.
Bibim= Mixed
Guksu= Noodles

Heres the link to the recipe.

Here is what the original noodles look like.

Figure 1.1 The original

I personally tried this recipe multiple times and I really love these noodles. Its hella bomb.

After choosing a recipe, I went on Pinterest to search for some inspirations.
Figure 1.3 These are the inspos that I collected.
I then narrowed down to the style that I was more attracted to.

Basically, I like the hand drawn look rather than a flat modern look as more details can be added into the poster.

 Recipe

  • 1 cup napa cabbage kimchi
  • 2 Tbsp gochujang, Korean red pepper paste
  • 2 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 hard boiled egg, halved

  1. Cook somen by following directions of package you are using.
  2. Meanwhile, let’s make kimchi mixtures. Add kimchi into a mixing bowl and cut it with kitchen scissors.
  3. Add gochujnag, vinegar, sugar, sesame oil and seeds. When you adding sesame seeds, place on one of your palm and break by rubbing both palms so fragrance will be released. Add more vinegar if your kimchi is not quite fermented and not sour enough. Mix well.
  4. Drain cooked noodles in a strainer and rinse under running cold water to get rid of excess starch. Drain completely.
  5. Add cooked noodles and mix well with your hand. Transfer to a serving bowl and top with halved hard boiled egg and some extra sesame oil and seeds.
  6. Top with julienne cucumber/carrot to your taste.

Process
I decided to draw the ingredients first. So I gathered pictures of the original ingredients and I started to draw them out.

I then started to draw them one by one. Below is the finished product of the ingredients.

After that I tried to draw the noodles.

After that I drew the pots and drainer.

After that, I then tried to create the poster. I had a lot of trouble coming up with the composition.

After that I realised that horizontal was a much better composition. I then tried and sketch it ou

Video
After creating the poster, the next assignment was to make a video out from the recipe poster that we created.

I first put each elements in a separate file and I saved each element one by one.

Above are some of the elements that were used in the video along with a few text.

The video is made using after effects.
